This Sunday at Coastal Christian, Pastor Matt Stokes taught on 2 Peter 1:19-21. Here are the notes that accompanied the sermon:

We have even greater confidence in the message proclaimed by the prophets. You must pay close attention to what they wrote, for their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place - until the day dawns, and the Morning Star shines in your hearts. Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding, or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.
- 2 Timothy 3:16             
                               
Therefore, we never stop thanking God that when you received His message from us, you didn’t think of our words as mere human ideas. You accepted what we said as the very Word of God - which, of course, it is. And this Word continues to work in you who believe.
- 1 Thessalonians 2:13                                      
 
Being convinced of your eternity will compel you to reset your life’s priorities.
 
For the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

 So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.

The Scriptures reveal God’s perspective and increase our faith.
 
God’s law is written in their [our] hearts, for their own conscience and thoughts either accuse them or tell them they are doing right.

Reconsider the place of God’s Word in your life, today.
 
You will make time for what’s important to you.
 
Does the Bible contradict itself? Or, does it contradict you?

Our Father’s heart is blessed when His children are coming to Him.

3. On Sunday, Pastor Matt said, “Being convinced of your eternity will compel you to reset your life’s priorities.” What priorities are you personally considering need to be reset? 
 
4. We would all agree that we make time for what is important to us. Many of us would also agree that we are not making enough time to read and study Scripture. What are some practical ways that we could step into a deeper commitment in regards to our relationship to the Word?
