2 Peter 1:1a - Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ,
Do I see myself as a servant or celebrity?
2 Peter 1:1b to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Savior Jesus Christ:
Every believer is a beneficiary of Christ’s blessings.
The gospel activates all the redemptive realities in the life of the believer.
2 Peter 1:2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
2 Peter 1:3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory & virtue:
The greatest pursuit of my life is knowing Christ.
2 Peter 1:4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
What is hindering me from pursuing, knowing, & experiencing Jesus Christ?

Sermon Discussion Questions - Printable Sheet
1. Read 2 Peter 1:1-4. There is an interesting distinction between the author’s old name (Simon) and his new name given to him by Jesus (Peter). He also refers to himself, first, as a servant/slave, and then, Apostle. Pastor Matt discussed the difference between the servant mindset & the celebrity mentality. How have you experienced this in the life of your church fellowship? In which of these two directions do you feel you are leaning? How do we help ourselves and others to move towards a servant-mindset?
2. Within these four verses, what spiritual truth has the greatest impact on your heart? Is that impact of truth leading you to a new spiritual determination/commitment? Would you share that with your Connect Group?
3. On Sunday, this statement was made: “The greatest pursuit of my life is knowing Jesus Christ.” On a scale from 1 to 10 (with 10 being the greatest), what number would you give yourself in regards to the truth of this statement. Why do you give yourself that number?
4. Verse 4 refers to “exceeding great and precious promises” that enable us to be partakers of the divine nature. What are the most life-changing promises that have brought about transformation in this recent season of your life?
5. Verse 4 closed out by talking about having escaped the corruption that is “in the world through lust.” Are you able to identify a particular desire/habit, that is corrupting your development? Perhaps it is a relationship clock, a place you feel led to, a hard habit to break, or a new commitment to make. How can your group help you escape/be rescued/delivered from whatever that is?
